Volker Rexing receives qualification as a ESPE inspector

Lauer is expanding its portfolio and is now also qualified to carry out expert testing of machines with ESPE systems. Volker Rexing, functional safety expert at Lauer CE-Safety, successfully completed a two-day hybrid seminar at Haus der Technik e. V. in March, supported by TÜV SÜD.
The qualification now allows him to ensure the effectiveness of ESPE systems on machines and to perform necessary measurements in an expert manner.

Electro-Sensitive Protective Devices, ESPE systems, are becoming increasingly popular and are useful wherever operators frequently and regularly intervene in the machine's danger zone. In addition to capacitive ultrasonic, microwave and infrared systems, optoelectronic protective devices such as light curtains, laser scanners or camera-based systems have become widely established. Compared to mechanical protective devices, these systems offer enormous time and labor savings and increase employee safety. Although manufacturers require daily function tests, recurring tests and follow-up measurements by qualified experts often fall short. In order to avoid detailed errors during tests and measurements, experience and know-how are required, which are specified in the technical rules TRBS 1201 and TRBS 1203.

The following is tested, among others:

  • Correct installation
  • Any damage to components
  • Signs of abrasion (effectiveness of protective measures after prolonged operation)

Lauer now offers you:

"Testing of non-contact protective devices":

  • Measurement of stopping time
  • Measurement of the stopping distance

As part of the manufacturer's responsibility as a test in accordance with the Machinery Directive

  • Initial commissioning

In the course of operator responsibility as a test in accordance with the Operator Safety Ordinance

  • Stopping distance

Mr Rexing is our experienced qualified colleague who can now also act as a test person for ESPE systems and provide advice on the development / integration of ESPE systems in safety functions.

We are pleased to be able to constantly expand our range of services for machine safety!
